Why are not all piercing artists consistent with their after care instructions?
Answer The care given by piercers is usually a mix of conventional wisdom in the industry and experimentation, not neccessarily fact or clinical trial. A piercer might want to sell you a certain product because they are convinced that it will ensure easy healing for you. Aftercare seems often to get mystified, obfuscated and micromanaged. Evidence from research done to compare surgical aftercare methods has shown that if *a clean wound is made with appropriate sterile surgical technique * and only inert material (monofilament sutures, titanium staples, etc) is left in place and *the tissue is kept clean and dry *the area is cleaned with a mild antiseptic means such as soap and clean water if it gets dirty or injured then *the resulting wound will heal faster than otherwise without further outside intervention. No product or cleanser adds skin or makes it grow faster. Most methods of cleaning can do more harm than good. http://piercing.org/faq/aftercare.html explains this in greater det
