Not all factory work is impossible to get with a felony, but it can be much more difficult. I have no inside knowledge of your particular employer. We can make a reasonable guess about the reason from the charges. You mention that the convictions include DUI and illegal drug possession. Employers are very sensitive about drug and alcohol use on the job, and substance abuse in general. According to the Department of labor employees who abuse drugs and alcohol are almost 4 times more likely to have a workplace accident and 5 times more likely to file a comp claim. Workers using drugs or alcohol are only about 2/3 as productive as other workers. Employers see DUI and drug possession convictions as potential signs of substance abuse at work. They know they are at risk for poor quality work and lawsuits that can cost them lots of money.
