Why are no rivers being proposed for designation as wild or scenic?
Eleven rivers were considered for designation under the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act in alternative C. However, no rivers are being recommended suitable for designation in the preferred alternative. There is only limited local support—and no State of Alaska or Alaska Congressional Delegation support—for designation. Determination of suitability, the authority for which has been delegated to the BLM State Director, will be documented in the Record of Decision. Actual designation under the Act requires congressional action.
