While this sounds like “no duh” physics, the point is that acrylic will less infuse into the canvas than paint and thus sit on the surface, pulling that surface to itself as it dries, because solids occupy less room than liquids (and liquids less volume than gases.) The painting world online likely has folks telling you what to do with the acrylic paints to prevent this, but that would be the reason it’s happening.
