Why are multinational companies helping destroy the rainforest?
Multi-national companies are different to other companies in lots of ways. They often locate their HQ in a countrie[s] with the lowest taxes. They are only accountable to their shareholders. The principle desire is to make profit, although quality and market share are important. Because of this they are happy to move production to cheapest country and allow loyal workers to lose their work. They have no loyalty to any country so therefore they are free to choose even though that country has paid for infrastructure and an educated workforce that has helped the multi-national. Multi-nationals will tell countries and staff they are abandoning because of market forces. Rainforest is felled and the land is replanted for lots of reasons and not just market forces. countries with forest have to issue permits, some countries officials will be bribe either directly or promises of investment [see the latest Bond movie!].
