WHY are most Americans deeply ignorant about religion..? And who are the least ignorant?
The reason most Americans are deeply ignorant about religion is because most Americans are religious. To be religious is to stop critical thinking and feel satisfied with not thinking, not questioning, and not educating yourself. It’s no wonder these people are ignorant about nearly everything up to and including their own religion. “Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful.” – Seneca the younger That is exactly what religious is, it’s a tool used to instill fear, to control, and to manipulate people. If you find yourself doubting this you need to ask yourself why religion tells you who to vote for, why they ask you for your money, and why they cast you out for questioning them and praise you for blindly believing.
I wouldn’t go as far as saying “most” Americans are deeply ignorant about religion but a big chunk are. On the other hand I would have to say that an even bigger chunk of unbelievers, you included, are just as deeply ignorant of religion especially Christianity and what it “really” means to be a Christian. When in doubt, generalize, paint with a broad brush, and toss a blanket statement over everything.
