Why are middle distillates difficult to handle?
Middle distillates are the main source of heating and road diesel fuels. They contain n-paraffins which can start to solidify to wax even at ambient temperatures. When a middle distillate fuel is cooled down, waxes manifest themselves first as cloudiness, which becomes more pronounced as the fuel is cooled further. This phenomenon can have detrimental effects on vehicle and fuel pump operability.
