Why are medical personnel choose (IV) administratiom rather than oral administration?

UN-cola is very much right. IV route is the route of emergency and this is the main reason. At the same time, some medications are degraded in the acidic pH of the stomach, some are highly polar compounds that wouldn’t just penetrate the GI mucosa to enter the circulation and half life of some drugs (adenosine) is so short that they need to be given intravenously. There are many other reasons too, such as the bioavailability of a drug given IV is 100% (which is never as much orally or through other routes) and others.

IV meds address the problem in a much more timely manner..oral meds take longer, & the concentration of drug in the blood is less..

Sometimes a drug is only available as an IV preparation. Usually, dose can be much better controlled by IV administration – you don’t have to worry about variable absorption. Finally, a patient may be unconscious, ruling out oral administration.
