Why are medical coders in such high demand?
With the rapid growth of the healthcare industry, the demand for processing medical documentation has increased tremendously. As stated by the AAPC, “Nationally, 18 percent of all medical coding positions are vacant, with 10,000 new positions created each year and only 2,000 new coders entering the field.” Some of the advantages for a career as a medical coder include: Job security, flexible work schedules, being a member of the medical profession, ability to work for an employer or yourself, and portable skills that allow you to move around geographically. Many medical coders do not realize how empowered they are. One goal that On Assignment has is to give our candidates the proper information on where their skills are needed most, showing them the high potential they possess. Once they realize that they can go just about anywhere in the country and be in demand, they are open to many other opportunities that they would not otherwise be aware of.
