Why are magic mushrooms magic?
There is more than one type of psycoactive mushroom, but ‘magic mushrooms’ usually refer to ones containing the hallucinogens psilocybin and psilocin, and are illegal in most places (but they’re pretty easy to find growing wild!). Another mushroom that is psycoactive is amanita muscaria (aka fly agaric). They’re the ones with white stalks and bright red tops with white spots on you get in fairy tales. These have a different psycoactive chemical in called muscimol. They also have ibotenic acid in, which is inactive but is turned into muscimol in the human body. These mushrooms are completely legal (in the uk anyway). Also, enough ibotenic acid is left over in your urine to be active, so if you’re really desperate you could save your pee! I’ve read somewhere that it can go through up to 5 bladders and still be effective!
