Why Are Lorikeets Not Suitable For Beginners?
For starters, many people don’t realize how loud lorikeets can call. They are very loud birds, especially when they are hungry. Another thing many people don’t realize is that they need to be on a special diet. Lorikeets can’t have a diet too low in iron. If they don’t get enough iron, they can develop hemochromatosis (iron storage disease), which is caused by eating too much citrus fruit like oranges or eating too many pellets containing iron. Also, they can develop liver problems from eating too much iron. In additon, they aren’t seed eaters like most other pet birds and they must eat nectar and fruits (for example, grapes, apples, cantaloupe, and kiwi are favorites) to be healthy.
