Why are larger LCD (20″ +) displays so much more expensive than smaller LCD (15″-19″) displays?
To increase display size, manufacturers must add more pixels and transistors. With the increase in transistor count, the chances of one failing increase. Due to quality controls, many of the larger panels are rejected as they are produced. The level of rejection directly affects LCD prices since the sales of the good LCDs must cover the cost of manufacturing both the good and bad ones. Advances in LCD panel manufacturing will bring down the rejection rate of panels, and consequently the prices as well.
