Why are laptop computers required at The Hill?
Our students’ “learning moments” occur throughout The Hill School day. In addition to being powerful tools for reference, research, and communication outside the classroom, computers in the classroom enhance learning and teaching according to current research. Benefits include: • More active, engaged learners • The ability to augment traditional lecture presentations with animation, multimedia, and other collaborative tools • The extension of the learning day (students with access to laptops have been shown to work longer on their projects) • Significant improvement in higher-order skills, in team-based communication, and in project-based learning. These lifelong learning skills are crucial for success in college and beyond. Whether it be in the classroom, library, or during a free period elsewhere on campus, students can access e-mail, documents, and the internet through their laptop.
