HOUMA — Lafourche Parish School District has cancelled school Monday in advance of Hurricane Ida, according to its Web site. Terrebonne schools are remaining open, according to school Superintendent Philip Martin. He said that after meeting with Parish President Michel Claudet and other emergency officials the district decided school could go on, but they will continue to watch the storm. Nicholls State University in Thibodaux will also remain open Monday, according to its Web site. The university emergency committee will meet again Monday morning to review the storm’s progress.
Voluntary evacuations are underway in Lafourche Parish after Jindal declared a state of emergency in Louisiana for Hurricane Ida. Lafourche Parish leaders have decided that all schools will be closed Monday in preparation for Ida. This includes all private schools as well. Central office supervisors, maintenance staff, school custodial staff and school administrators should still report to work. The 17th Judicial District Court System will also be closed on Monday.
