Why are italians ashamed of being brown haired and olive skinned?
Most Italians are not ashamed, just annoyed by that stereotype (a stereotype is by definition something that people believe but is actually wrong). When I read somebody stating “the only blondes you find in Italy are foreign tourists” (like actually happened) I think it’s no way offensive, but that person show how ignorant he is, and often people who do such claims do it like it’s a conclusive, indisputable assertion, so it’s even more irritating. Obviously there are way more serious stereotypes, some offensive for real, but a wrong belief is never good. And if a person ask about, I just think it’s proper to tell the truth, for instance that blondes or blue-eyed are common in Italy and far from being “exotic”. If somebody ask, I don’t think is looking for a wrong answer.
