Why are ISRAEL playing in the football EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS ?
The Israel Football Association was founded in 1928, under the original name of Palestine Football Association. However 20 years later, after WW2, the state of Israel was formed during the British Mandate of Palestine. Under this time it was affiliated to the Asian Football Confederation. With the creation of Israel, political upheavel was formed, and the football suffered. Israel qualified for one world cup, in 1970, whilst a member of Asia. Israel left AFC in 1975, but remained a member of FIFA. To stabilise the political unrest within the country that was affecting the football, and to provide continental competition, Israel joined UEFA in 1992, which has since stabilised the situation.
