Why are Irish dancing dresses so expensive?
Funny that people think that these (truly awful) dresses are part of Irish culture, when in fact they are NOT. The people who kept the culture alive, the country people who lived on farms or in remote village, could barely afford to dress themselves in ordinary clothes and shoes, never mind buy nasty, wasteful tat like those dresses. No, those ‘creations’ are American, plastic Paddy, efforts which have little to do with real Irish culture. And I’m not even going into those hideous wigs the girls wear now … By the way, I am Irish and live in Ireland.
The Irish are certainly not thick as a previous writer stated. They are a very talented warm kind people. The dresses are expensive because each dress is unique, hand embroidered, often using silk thread, very delicately sewn which can take days of work.Would one like to be underpaid for such creative work.
