Why are Iowa Caucases so important?
I am no expert, but I believe they are important because Iowa is the first state to hold a caucus. Candidates want to be in the lead in Iowa, because other states’ caucuses can be influenced by the outcomes of the voting. If say Senator Obama is shown to be the “victor” in Iowa, then this could cause more to vote for him in the caucuses that follow across the nation. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.
These early pre-election elections, such as the Iowa caucus, are important because they: indicate an early trend that could develop into a strong showing on Election Day, weaker candidates who do not do well will drop out of the race early, Those who do well are able to get larger and many more contributions to finance their campaign, the winner stands a better chance in the New Hampshire primary which is also considered an important step to the presidency.
