Why are images drawn to scale?
The answer depends upon the size of the original item. Large items are drawn to a downsized scale in order to fit the image on the available page. The smaller components of such objects might be shown in a larger scale or in actual size in order to view the necessary detail work of the component, but the object as a whole just would not fit on a page. Similarly, such a large object might be more easily studied as an entire object in small dimensions (this would be like viewing the object from a large distance… if you were standing right next to an ocean liner, for example, it would be very difficult to see all the details– you would have to walk a long distance to see everything, and even then you might not have a very good idea of how the pieces actually come together. It would be much easier to look at an ocean liner from the distance of a few blocks). On the other hand, you would not be able to see the intricate details of very small objects drawn to actual size.
