We did so to save on image size and hence bandwidth. We are limited to 2mbps on outgoing bandwidth. The image quality is not that different and only noticeable if you use solids. You are NOT permitted to give out links to the PNG version of the image, as they take four times more bandwidth than their JPEG counterparts.
