Why are hen and stag parties so called?

think of it as a wedding, you got a hens night (no boys allowed, and technically a stag party(which nowdays are refered to as bucks night)no girls allowed, if you put them all together there would be nothing but wild hormoned flying and half of the flock arguing, thats why they create hens and stags(seems pretty silly considering stags are a male deer). but the only reason it exists is because it is a wedding tradition, and the gals and guys are meant to enjoy themselves for a whole 24hrs, before they walk down the isle and accept their fate of love. good luck and a big congrats if its you its happening to.
