Why are hearing aids so expensive?
There are a lot of factors that contribute to the pricing of hearing instruments. The technology that goes inside a hearing aid has changed tremendously over the last 20 years. These technology advancements have allowed hearing aids to evolve from a basic amplifier to a sophisticated miniature computer chip that can be housed in a small, damp space on a daily basis and in all types of adverse environments. Daily use of these devices in such environments has forced hearing aid manufacturers to have incredibly stringent reliability and durability standards for every aspect of every hearing aid. In addition, manufacturer warranties are provided for both new hearing aids and out-of-warranty repairs on hearing aids. The cost of continuing development of digital technology and the manufacturing costs of custom made products set high prices for us retailers to purchase from the manufacturers. Hearing Aids are not sold in masses like televisions or cars, and can only be sold by professionally qualified ‘Registered Hearing Aid Dispensers’ requiring many hours of dispenser care and attention over the period of use expected from them – that can be 7 years of ongoing aftercare service! Some companies simply overcharge for premium range hearing aids. Hearing aids last on average 5-7 years – that’s approximately 180,000 hours of real-time usage!

I am deaf since birth. I cannot hear any the sound. I wear my both side hearings aids. I mostly fleunt America Sign Language for many years. I read it about " Why are hearing aids so expensive?".
Let me tell you why………. Our Deaf community CANNOT afford expansive digital hearing aids. We are NOT rich! They have poor job not enough money to get earn from their working the part-time Jobs…. No benefit…. NOT full-time jobs…. It cost us $2,400 per each of hearing aid. PER EACH??? Why? Not fair for us. Mostly deaf community have both side of the two hearing aids.
Our deaf community tired of going to see the DVR for requesting about new one hearing aids. The DVR give us lot of application fill-out and wait for two months. Until We must get the audiology and show the DVR a proof, We are deaf or hard of hearing or not. We wait to recieve it the new hearing aids in around three months. Our waste of our times…. They think free digital hearing aids from DVR.. it is not free. belong to the goverment’s greed. THAT goverment look for cheap hearing aids for everyone as deaf community. Those are not mine. The cheap hearing aids is sound not great. I am NOT happy about it. WE NEED to get FREE expansive digital hearing aids badly.
