Many people avoid snacks because thereis something at the back of their minds telling them it is not healthy or they had parents cautioning them to stop having too much of it.
But if the right foods are given at the right times, snacks can play an important role in providing that much needed nutrition. A well-timed snack can reduce hunger pangs and give the right energy boost between each meal. You must choose low sodium snacks and snacks that contain whole grains and proteins too.
• Athletes and active people need more calories and nutrients than people who do not exercise regularly. They may not get enough calories or nutrients in their diet because of busy work and exercise schedules. Nutrients are carbohydrate (kahr-boh-HEYE-drayt), protein, fat, vitamins and minerals. Healthy snacks add extra calories and nutrients to an athlete’s diet without taking too much time to prepare or eat. • Eating a healthy snack before exercise will give you the energy you need during exercise.
