Why are Fuzzy Logic air conditioners more energy efficient than Thermostats?
Two factors contribute to this increased efficiency: First, fuzzy logic control can take advantage of air conditioning machinery which can be set to different levels of output. A thermostats is simply a thermometer, with an electrical switch set to turn “on” when the temperature exceeds the selected threshold. Some air conditioning systems, though, can scale their output (for example by turning on some or all of their units). Fuzzy logic can scale its demand for air conditioning, based on the temperature and humidity. Second, fuzzy logic allows for a more sophisticated control process. Rather than activating the air conditioning system only when it is either “too hot” or “too humid”, it can also do so when it is merely “warm and somewhat humid”.
