Why are frogs green?
Not all frogs are green. Those frogs that are green, are green for the purpose of camouflaging them in their environment. The pigment a frog produces is actually either yellow, dark brown or black, and some frogs do appear that color. The light that reflects off the iridescent cells scattered throughout the skin of green frogs is blue, and this, combined with the yellow xanthophores that make up the topmost layer of their skin, makes these frogs appear green rather than yellow, dark brown, or black.
