Why are french & italian cars so badly made?
Well, it really depends. If you got these cars used, it could be from previous owner’s neglect. Italian and French dealerships are not abundant. Which means availability of parts, and/or someone willing to work on it that is not at a dealership, are exponentially more rare. Many foriegn cars were victims of DIY geniuses too cheap or impatient to follow the quirky maintenance schedules, or buy the proper parts. Furthermore, until recently, many of these machines were made on “old world tooling”. Without going through an hour explaining production methods, it basically means parts were not consistent, because processes now automated and “fixed”, were still being done by hand or in small batches. While small -batch production ensures easier control over each item, it does not control consistency from batch to batch. So when you spent $300 on a water pump, waited 6 months for it, just to see it didn’t bolt up, it’s because too much human factor was involved in the process. Lower-production
