Why are fertility goddesses prevalent in ancient iconography?
In ancient times, child-bearing was one of the main roles of women, especially the birth of males. In fact, in several ancient cultures if a woman could not produce a child the husband was allowed to find another woman and produce a child with her and it was not considered adultery. As a result of this women would pray for a child.
