Why are fats and oils a better energy store than carbohydrates?
Actually, they aren’t. Fats contain more energy per unit weight than carbohydrates, which is why they are more difficult to metabolize than carbs. Carbohydrates, on the other hand, are metabolized much more quickly. That’s why Red Bull (full of sugar, a simple carb) is a good energy drink and why pasta (a complex carb) is a common meal for marathon runners the night before they race.
