Why are dangerous people in charge of countries instead of peaceful ones?
Dangerous people become powerful because they’re dangerous and aggressive. Peaceful people don’t. There’s a lot of competition for powerful positions like President or Pope; weak or nice people don’t get those jobs. If you use other people as stepping-stones, you get ahead. If you help others, they get ahead. You may get ahead too but that only works up to a point. When you get to the level of leadership of an entire nation, it is all tooth and claw. Such people naturally negotiate by holding a gun on you.
