Why are customers prohibited from installing their own network equipment?
There are several reasons why installations are required to be performed by Network Communication Services (NCS): Network Performance Misconfigured or malfunctioning network equipment can cause problems for an entire building. This is true for both shared and switched technologies. IEEE Ethernet standards dictate that there can only be a certain number of network segments and repeaters between any two hosts within a segment. Additionally, there are distance and node restrictions for network segments. Customer installed network equipment can cause the Local Area Network to violate Ethernet specifications.
