Cuban cigars became illegal to be distributed or used in America in 1962 when JFK put a trade embargo against Cuba. This embargo was placed in order to take power away from Fidel Castro’s communist government. As of 2007 the embargo still stands but you can find and purchase Cuban cigars in Canada. Most US custom officials will let a small amount of Cuban cigars come into America as long as the brands are taken off them before hand.
