Why are contaminated bags a problem and how are they identified?
Mixing general waste with the recyclables in your orange bag causes real problems and can destroy the efforts of your whole community and the success of the scheme. Placing wrong materials in the orange bag CONTAMINATES the good quality, clean recyclables that means it can no longer be sent for recycling and has to be disposed of at a landfill site. The orange bags have been designed so that they are translucent. This means that any contaminated bags can be quickly identified on the kerbside, marked with a black tag, placed in the refuse freighters and taken to landfill before they reach the Materials Recycling Facility.
