Why are coaching, and teaching, so important?
Some people suffer from materialism, a spiritual problem that causes them to spend beyond their means or spend too much on luxuries. As a result, they may suddenly find that they don’t have enough to cover the cost of necessities. This so-called crisis is the external symptom of an internal problem. In the case of some other people, a lack of money for necessities may be the result of financial problems such as poor money management (lack of a spending plan). And, other people may suffer from guidance problems. They struggle to manage their money because they’ve never been taught how to do so. Solving problems like materialism is important, because Luke 16:11 says, “If you cannot be trusted with worldly riches, then who will trust you with true riches?” (NCV). Thus, simply giving money to applicants may not solve their problem. It may deal with the symptom only. And, without any controls or follow-up, giving money can be like pouring gasoline on a fire.
