Why are certain Life sciences electronic journals not available at McGill?

0

There are a number of electronic journal titles to which the Life Sciences Library does not subscribe. Journals are generally not available if: • they are not within the scope of the Library’s collection policies • they are only available to individual subscribers, and not institutions • the publisher site license does not allow the McGill Libraries to deliver full-text articles to any computer connected to the McGill University Backbone Network, or to any remote computer connecting through McGill’s Dial Up Access (DAS) or Virtual Private Network (VPN) services (that is, the publisher does not offer a reasonable site license). Publishers may restrict access to either computers in the libraries or within specific departments or individual buildings • the cost to add or purchase access to the electronic version of the journal, is prohibitive.
