Why are certain groups of people for globalization, but against having multicultural societies!?
I think a lot of people define globalization purely in economic and political terms – a “free” market and political cooperation, as long as everyone stays in their own part of the world. Social and cultural globalization is seen as more of a threat, because it forces every individual to change, and adapt, and accept. In past centuries of human civilization, societies were much slower to change, because each civilization could largely exist in its own little bubble, and only associate with cultures that they found more in common with. Today, every corner of the globe is in constant communication, and we are confronted with more of the world’s problems – poverty and starvation, wars, oppression, religious intolerance. The information comes flooding through the TV, and not everyone can make sense of it all. And to complicate matters, not all of that information is reliable or balanced. Multiculturalism can work, and has been historically proven to work with time and patience, but it can b
Because their interest in “globalization” is purely opportunistic: They’re in it for the money. If they can maximize profits for the shareholders by moving operations to a country with a less expensive standard of living, they’re all for it. But heaven forfend they should actually have to interact with, let alone understand and appreciate, the people in the other cultures whose labor they will cheerfully maximize for sub-minimum wage. Such people’s version of “globalization” is rooted in a sense that their own culture is and should be dominant over others, which viewpoint tends to be antithetical to multicultural understanding and appreciation.
