If they are (and I’m not sure that’s so), then it probably has to do with NATO. Most countries have gone to left hand drive while Great Britain, Japan and a few other countries stick with RHD. Originally this started because with horse drawn vehicle the driver sat on the right. Not sure why it got changed to left hand drive for most of the planet. BTW, most true racing sports cars have RHD as on most sports car race courses,they run clockwise and there are more right hand turns than left. In the US, oval tracks run counter clockwise and perhaps that is why LHD became popular. And since fof a large part of the history of the auto, US manufacturers were predominant in production many other countries adopted the LHD format.
