Why are Brita water filters time limited for use?

its because of carbon based contamination, the tiny particles that are held in the filter slowly compromise the integrity of the filter and rust starts to form on a microbiotic level regardless of how often you use it and then the brita losses the integrity of 100% particle filtration. once the brita filter gets wet and starts collecting those particles is when the 4 weeks come into play regardless of how often you use the brita.on the other hand you can also compare a unfiltered cup of tap water against a cup of water from a week old brita filter and the cup of brita will still be cleaner,it all depends on how filtered you want the water to be and as long as the cup o brita water looks cleaner than the tap water you are ok.
