Why are balloon flights usually in the morning?
In order to safely fly a hot air balloon, the wind must be fairly calm. Usually, the calmest wind conditions are found in the morning at sunrise and for an hour or two thereafter. After the sun has had a chance to heat up the ground, warm air begins to rise from the surface and cooler air moves in to replace it. This creates the surface winds that are prevalent as the day progresses. So, we fly in the mornings when Mother Nature is most cooperative.
