Why are Australias movie release dates so far behind Americas?
G’day fyrespryte, Thank you for your question. I think that it is partly historical due to the time that it took to ship films to Australia. It is partly due to a different calendar as the US has its main period of school holidays in the US summer (June, July and August) while the main period of school holidays is December-January. As the school holiday period is the most profitable time of the year for moviemakers, that can lead to delays. Given the rise of illegal downloading of movies, I would expect the delays between Australian and US movie release dates to shrink markedly.
