Why are Australian current affairs like Today Tonight still being allowed to air on Australian television!!!?

The week-day evening “Current Affairs” shows on the commercial networks are worse than they were 20-30 years ago but compared with similar current shows in the US they are good. Currently the best current affairs shows are “60 Minutes” on the 9 Network (and their standards have dropped over the years), “Foreign Correspondent” and 4-Corners both on the ABC. 30-45 years ago the “4-Corners” show was the best one-hour weekly current affairs show on any Australian station and “This Day Tonight” (the 30 minute week-day current affairs show) was the best in Australia and both in the top 5-6 in the world, the best being in Britain. Compared with similar shows in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand the “Today Tonight” and the “Current Affairs” shows are of a much higher standard. I am unable to compare with any other countries.
