Why are AS#1’s WASL scores so low?

0

At AS#1 we believe that assessment of student learning is best accomplished in the context of real-world experience. Because our families often share this belief, many choose to exercise their legal right to opt their children out of the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL). Unfortunately for AS#1, the policies of No Child Left Behind mandate that students opting out of the test receive a score of zero, drastically lowering cumulative scores for the AS#1 community. AS#1’s WASL scores are not at all reflective of the learning and academic successes that happen at our school. For more information, check out our Student Assessment page and please come visit our classrooms, talk to our teachers and see for yourself the kinds of learning that happens at AS#1!
