Why are animal experiments still happening?
There are many reasons why animal experiments continue. One reason is tradition and momentum, and the systems are resistance to change. This is because animal based reseach is so ingrained that the whole research industry is based around it, and there is a general unwillingness to move forward and use new cutting edge techniques. Also in many instances there may be a lack of resources and funds for humane research, as well as a lack of knowledge and expertise. In light of countless drugs disasters many scientists and doctors have started to question the validity of animal experimentation. A further issue is that the experimenters are not the people seeing and dealing with patient care. They think animal experiments are helping to cure human diseases but are so removed from patient care that they cannot see its fundamental flaws.
