Because Americans believe that their Constitution allows all citizens to bear arms. Actually it does not. What the Constitution allows is for a Citizen’s Militia to bear arms. Okay, here’s the kind of ‘arms’ [18thC] we’re talking about. You’ll note that the re-enactor British Redcoat in this video clip is a fine soldier and is able to fire and reload his Brown Bess Musket 3 times in 46 seconds.
