Why are Americans so afraid of universal health care?
I agree with you completely. However I think there are a few factors in American fear of universal health care: 1). Lobbyist–There are 6 lobbyists for every member of Congress. For example when Sicko was released it is known that storms of lobbyist sat in theaters paid to find out how to discredit the documentary. 2) Since the 90s the Democratic Party has grown conservative and so have Republicans. By the standards of other democracies, Democrats are conservatives and the Republicans (in general) are so conservative that there is no place for them in other governments. For example in the UK even the most extreme conservative support their NHS (National Health Service when this is an even more socialist system than the proposed American Public Option) 3) Yes I agree with you, for many Americans it is easy to belief the lies. This because while I love my country, part of my patriotism is that I recognize where we can improve, education. Most Americans think they know universal healthcar
