Why are alternative assessment strategies important in BTE learning environments?
In the introductory portion of this section we discussed the need to more closely align how performance is assessed in school with how performance is assessed in the workplace. It is also necessary to use assessment methods that give students the opportunity to correct performance and continuously improve without being penalized. When such assessments are utilized, students will begin to develop the processes and strategies necessary to perform tasks effectively and efficiently. Again, these processes are what transfers to the workplace, and efficient processes are what make employees valuable assets to their organizations. Also, assessment of student achievement is a fundamental component of Florida s System of Educational Reform and Accountability. Proper assessment provides vital information on the effectiveness of Florida s educational reform efforts and on the level of students achievement.
