Why are all the queries defined in the Stored Query transaction patient oriented?
All queries defined as part of the Stored Query transaction include a required ‘patient ID’ parameter because XDS, in its basic form, is patient record oriented. There are many other potential uses for XDS such as public health surveillance where queries are not specific to a single patient. We anticipate that new and separate profiles will be created to focus on individual areas of this type. Each of these profiles will produce a set of queries for the Stored Query transaction which would be designated ‘required’ if an implemenation supports that profile.
