Why are all the phones in offices not equipped with voicemail message waiting lights?
At the time of the installation of the older, analog phone system, a decision was made to deploy phones without the message waiting light and to have the phone lines configured not to provide that service. Instead of the light, an audible stutter tone is heard on the line, just prior to the dial tone, to indicate that new messages have arrived. The new, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phones come equipped with a red “message light,†which alerts the user that messages are waiting.
