I can’t believe the ignorance of some of these answers. First of all to the asker – I think you should have phrased the question “Why are all the best English SPEAKING writers Irish” Secondly, to the more ignorant of the answerers – what is with the immediate reference of the answerers to alcohol? Utterly pathetic. We aren’t all raving drunks you know, in fact you drink just as much in Britain as here. In some places, more. And to actually answer your question morrisey, as an Irish person myself,I don’t necessarily think that’s the case. Alot of fantastic writers are Irish, a lot of terrible ones are, just like any other country has good and bad writers. But if you tend to admire Irish writers more, then I guess it’s because of your connection to the sentiments they express, the manner in which they do so and also you are probably responding to the places or situations that inspired their creativity.
