Why are all mens “fashion” magazines either unbelievably camp or unbelievably dull?

Now, as this song points out, the general tenet is that fashion magazines for men are quite camp. Seeing as Wainwright is now touring the world singing Judy Garland ballads while wearing high heels and eyeliner, that is quite rum coming from him. But the point is, because there remains a stigma about men caring about fashion, fashion magazines either go too far the one way in a misguided show of overdefensiveness, resulting in a promotion of male playsuits, or far too far the other way with 10-page features about watches. Frankly, we can blame no one but ourselves. If we accepted that men are allowed to care about style, then we wouldn’t get landed with these two extremes.
