Why are alcohol and cigarettes legal yet marijuana is not?

Cigarettes and Alcohol rake in so much money for the government, legalization of it would be financial suicide. Pot isn’t legal because though not a major, major harm, it mentally disables a person and sometimes provides the means to do something they normally wouldn’t. Though some would argue, it’s also a proven fact that Pot can be a door to trying out other drugs, which is what the government wants to put an end to. All in all, they need SOMETHING to be illegal.
